June 2026 – Ocean Wonders, Monster Myths and Tiny Nanoheroes

This month’s MiniMag is packed with adventure, imagination and discovery — from the silly chaos of Minions & Monsters to the powerful movement of the ocean and its wonders and the microscopic world of nanotechnology.

On the cover, Minions & Monsters brings big-screen fun to the issue with movie-themed pages and activities. It is the perfect playful starting point for a month filled with strange creatures, monster myths and curious questions about the world around us. Why do people tell stories about monsters? Where do legends like sea creatures, dragons, the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster come from? This issue explores how imagination, mystery and the unknown have inspired stories across cultures for centuries.

The main learning journey takes readers into the ocean. In Ocean Motion, you discover how tides, waves and currents keep the sea moving every day. Tides are shaped by the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun, while currents help move water and heat around the planet. NOAA explains that tides involve water moving up and down, while currents move water from place to place — helping us understand why the ocean is never truly still.

Young readers can also dive into coral reefs, the colourful underwater habitats often called the “rainforests of the sea.” Coral reefs are alive, built by tiny animals called coral polyps, and they provide food and shelter for thousands of ocean species. But reefs are also under pressure. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority explains that coral bleaching is a sign of stress, often linked to warmer water temperatures, and can leave corals weak if conditions do not improve.

From the sea, the issue journeys into the rainforest. Readers explore forest layers, from the dark forest floor to the leafy canopy and towering emergent trees. Rainforests are home to an incredible variety of plants and animals, including monkeys, sloths, colourful frogs, parrots, toucans, jaguars and millions of insects. They are also vital for climate, clean air and biodiversity, which makes protecting them an important part of caring for the planet.

This month’s EasyScience feature zooms all the way down into the tiny world of nanotechnology and nanomedicine. Readers meet “nanoheroes” — tiny tools that may one day help doctors detect disease, deliver medicine more precisely and fight viruses or cancer cells in new ways. The issue also explains immunology, showing how your immune system recognises germs, remembers past infections and helps protect your body from illness.

There is plenty of action too. In Mountain Biking Madness, readers race into the 2026 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series and learn how speed, balance, friction, bike design and quick reactions all work together on spectacular trails. Meanwhile, Game On! explores what makes games fun, looking at challenge, progress, rewards, feedback and control — the clever design ingredients that keep players engaged.

This issue also includes ocean-themed maths, fishy riddles, sudoku, quizzes, spot-the-difference activities and a June calendar filled with fun facts and special days.
